ROLE PURPOSE

As the Specialist – Trade Compliance at Space42, you will be responsible for ensuring that all the relevant export control and sanctions regulations and policies are adhered at Space42. Your role is critical in managing and safeguarding the organization against compliance risks associated with export controls and sanctions compliance. Reporting to the Compliance Director you will work closely with various departments to departments to provide guidance and support on export and sanctions-related matters, ensuring compliance and minimizing risk in export transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage compliance with all applicable export control regulations, developing and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure that all exports are conducted in accordance with national and international laws.
  • Analyze and interpret international trade laws and regulations to ensure compliance across the organization.
  • Assess and determine the need for export licenses, preparing, submitting, and managing export license applications & sanctions, as well as maintaining accurate records of export transactions.
  • Conduct regular assessments of compliance risks associated with export controls and sanctions, identifying areas of risk and recommending appropriate actions for mitigation.
  • Participate in and support periodic internal audits to evaluate compliance with export control and sanctions policies; recommend improvements to current practices and procedures as necessary.
  • Keep informed of changes in export control & sanctions regulations and industry best practices, advising management and relevant stakeholders on potential impact and necessary adjustments.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance and collaborate with the business, operations and technical teams to be a trusted advisor for all matters related to export controls and sanctions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on export control & sanctions regulations and compliance requirements to foster understanding throughout the organization.
  • Support interactions with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and external stakeholders related to export control and sanctions regulations.
  • Ensure that all applicable transactions, including relevant documentation, are recorded in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Assist in the investigation of compliance breaches or potential violations and develop corrective action plans as required.
  • Manage the engagement of external advisors and consultants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, or a related field.
  • Certifications in export compliance (e.g. U.S. Export Compliance Certification or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in export control and sanctions compliance within the high-tech industry.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. export control laws (ITAR, EAR) and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with relevant local and international export control and sanctions laws and regulations, including those related to dual-use goods and technologies
  • Familiarity with compliance management software.
  • Proficiency in developing compliance training materials and conducting training sessions.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with government contracts and procurement processes is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., MS Project) and business intelligence software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with solid organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving regulatory requirements.
